Evelyn Christine Garrett Richards

Formerly of Albertville

Evelyn Christine Garrett Richards, 91, passed away Sunday, Aug. 25, 2024, at Aspire at Cahaba River in Birmingham.

Evelyn was born in Lincoln County, Tennessee, and moved to Albertville shortly thereafter and later to Birmingham, where she retired from Southern Research Institute with 37 years of service. After retirement, she volunteered as a “Pink Lady” at Baptist Hospital-Montclair in the surgery waiting room.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Ollie Garrett; her brother, Charles Garrett; and her grandson, Patrick Richards.

She is survived by her sons, Jimmy Richards (Becky) and Jerry Richards (Nancy); her daughter, Mary Ann Meadows; her grandchildren, Jeremy Richards, Chris Richards, Ashley Birk (John), Ryan Meadows (Chrissy), Stefanie Baker (Brian), Erica Romano (Anthony), Tiffany Hall (Ethan) and Brittany Richards; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, at 2 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens.

The family requests no flowers. Instead, memorial donations can be made to Evelyn’s favorite charity, St. Jude, or to a charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank Bonita at Aspire Cahaba for her love and care for Ms. Richards.

Carol Jean Birdsong

Huntsville

Carol Jean Birdsong, 73, of Huntsville passed away Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024, in Boaz.

A funeral service will be Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, at 2 p.m. in the McRae Chapel with Rev. David Johnson and Rev. Ken Kelley officiating, with a eulogy by Mary Ann Kelley. Interment will follow in Bethsaida Cemetery. A visitation will be Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, from noon until service time at the funeral home.

She is survived by her husband, Randall Birdsong of Huntsville; sons, Conner Birdsong (Karla) of Huntsville and Wesley Birdsong (Holly) of Indiana; grandchildren, Tait Birdsong, Asher Birdsong and Danna Birdsong; brother, Van Dobbs (Janet) of Arab; and sister-in-law, Connie Birdsong of Boaz.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Bethsaida Cemetery Fund, 2539 Bethsaida Road, Boaz, AL 35957.

Donald Swords

Albertville

Donald Swords, 79, of Albertville passed away Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2024, at Shepherd’s Cove in Albertville. Funeral services have been postponed at this time and will be announced at a later time.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Martha Swords; daughter, Robyn Abney; son, Mark (Lesa) Swords; three grandchildren, Grey Swords, Leah (Justin Looney) Abney and Alec (Anna Jenkins) Abney; one great-grandchild, Tatum Looney; and sister-in-love, Lynda Gayle Knight.

A 1963 graduate of Albertville High School and a 1967 graduate of Auburn University, he had a distinguished career as an engineer, contributing to the space program with Boeing and Sperry Rand Corporation. He later served as a project engineer for Montesano and founded his own business, Swords Engineering Inc. in 1982, which he operated until 2024.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Albertville building fund or Shepherd’s Cove Hospice.

Dorothy Sue Harbin

Albertville

Dorothy Sue Harbin, 76, of Albertville passed away Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024, at Albertville Health and Rehab.

There will be a graveside service Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Liberty Baptist Cemetery in the Painter community.

She is survived by her grandson, Matt Bouldin; brother, Gerald and Patricia Bouldin; nieces, Stacy Mikel, Stephanie Williams, Debbie Bouldin and Pam Ellis; daughter-in-law, Amy Bouldin; and sister-in-law, Cheryl Bouldin.

She is preceded in death by her son, Mark Bouldin; parents, Lamual and Ruth Bouldin; and brothers, Rick and Bobby Bouldin.

Albertville Memorial Chapel assisted the family.

Kristian Denver Garrard

Boaz

Kristian Denver Garrard, 34, of Boaz passed away Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024.

He is survived by his son, Kayden Garrard; father, Jeff Garrard (Stephanie); grandmother, Glenda Garrard; sister, Kaitlyn Garrard; aunts, Michelle Mims and Lisa Lyons; and a host of cousins. He is preceded in death by his mother, Christy Garrard; and his grandmother, Deborah Morrison.

There are no services planned at this time.

Michael Brandon “Brewski” Brewer

Michael Brandon “Brewski” Brewer, 46, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2024, at his home.

He is survived by his sons, Elijah Che Brewer and Michael Ibzan “Zan” Brewer; parents, Larry and Pam Brewer; brother, Benji Brewer (Stephanie); and his niece, Aubree Brewer.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later time.

Patrick DeWayne Murdock

Albertville

Patrick DeWayne Murdock, 56, of Albertville passed away in Marshall County on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024. The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.

He is survived by his son, Jessie Murdock; daughter, Samantha Terrell (Dusty); grandchildren, Karlie Jones, Jonathon Terrell, Nevaeh Terrell, Maicee Murdock, Gracelyn Murdock and Jessie Murdock Jr.; and his brothers, Michael Buchanan and Danny Murdock.

Marshall Memorial Funeral Home assisted the family.

William Randall

Albertville

William Randall, 75, of Albertville passed away at home Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024.

A visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Adams Brown Service Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024, at 1 p.m. at the Foley Center at St. William Catholic Church in Guntersville, with Mr. Randall lying in state from noon-1. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery. Father Mark Spruill will officiate.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Randall; sons, Billy (Emily) Randall and Kenny (Brandi) Randall; son-in-law, Evan Davenport; grandchildren, Jenna (Beau) Myrick, Brooke (Zack) Taylor, Kayla Kean, Laci Davenport, Callie Randall, Brynlee Randall and Braxton Randall; great-grandchildren, Ryland Taylor, Everley Taylor, Cadie Beth Taylor and Oliver Skaziak; and special friend, Kimmi Campagna; along with a host of nieces and nephews.

A decorated Vietnam veteran, Mr. Randall served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army and was a devoted member of St. William Catholic Church. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and cherished every moment spent with his family.
