What is the student classification at OU? ›

An academic standing prerequisite is stated by classification. Freshmen have accumulated between 1 and 29 semester hours; sophom*ores between 30 and 59 hours; juniors between 60 and 89 hours; seniors more than 90 hours; and graduate students must have been admitted to the Graduate College.

Please refer to your admission decision letter for instructions on notifying OU about your decision to accept a waitlist space. The waitlist at OU is not ranked. All students accepting a waitlist space will be considered for admission to the university, should space become available and credentials support admission.

Students can add and drop classes online through one.ou.edu during the first two weeks of a 16-week course. Beginning with the third week, online add/drop is not available; students must go to Enrollment Services in Buchanan Hall, Room 230, or email enroll@ou.edu to add or drop classes.

What Are My Chances of Getting Off the Waitlist? According to recent data from the National Association of College Admissions Counseling, colleges on average admit 20% of students off the waitlist. At the most selective institutions, that figure was 7%.

Once a university can better gauge its enrollment numbers, the school can begin to offer vacant spots to candidates from the waitlist. The waitlist isn't ranked; instead, admissions officers review the school's institutional needs and decide whom to admit from the waitlist based on those factors.

OU Summer Semester courses begin immediately following the Spring semester and offer 5 different blocks to choose from that are 4-weeks and 8-weeks long throughout the summer.

Full-Time Students

To be considered full-time, an undergraduate student must be enrolled in at least six (6) hours in a summer session and at least 12 hours in a fall or spring semester.

Student classification refers to the familiar names for the four undergraduate years: freshman, sophom*ore, junior, and senior. Your classification is not determined by the number of years of college coursework you have taken but by the number of semester hours you have earned.

Due to SEC regulations, which requires the home team's student section to be on the opposite side of the field from the visiting team bench, OU's student seating will move from its 2023 spot of sections 26-30 to its revised location of section 20 rows 6-28 and sections 22-28.

Graded undergraduate OU modules and collaborative credit modules award credit as one of Distinction (1; the highest grade), Pass grade 2, Pass grade 3, or Pass grade 4. Graded postgraduate OU modules award credit as one of Distinction, Merit and Pass.
