I transferred to Southeast Missouri State my sophom*ore year of college. This transition was very smooth and the staff was able to set me up with an advisor immediately. I major in Communication Disorders-Speech Language Pathology and I couldn't ask for a better program. The professors want you to succeed and provide an immense amount of opportunities in and outside of the classroom. In addition to this, the Center for Speech and Hearing clinic is located on campus and undergraduates get to observe and eventually have client's of their own.
This transition also went smoothly within greek life. I joined a sorority at my previous school and was able to transition into the same one here at SEMO! The Panhellenic community is so uplifting and reassures you that you are where you are meant to be.

As a student of creative writing I am rather disappointed that the University has allowed the Press to close due to finances, but is at the same time spending an egregious amount of money on the sports programs, especially the football field. This is in consideration of the fact that hardly any students attend football games beyond Homecoming, therefore making it completely unnecessary to shut down resources for other students while keeping the thoroughly outdated tradition of prioritizing sports. The English department has so many wonderful professors who are dedicated to the success of their students, and yet the University seems to have made it their personal agenda to suck and tear at it until there is nothing left. The written word quite literally permeates every single profession; why jeopardize its programs at nearly every single facet possible? Students will not enroll in the English programs if there is nothing available to them, which can only result in a slow, painful death.

Southeast Missouri State University, known as SEMO, offers a vibrant campus life despite its smaller size. As a freshman, I immersed myself in campus activities, enjoying the close-knit community and dedicated professors who fostered a supportive learning environment. SEMO's inclusivity made me, as an African American minority, feel welcomed and valued. Reflecting on my first year as a sophom*ore, SEMO provided not just education but also lasting memories and opportunities for all students to thrive.
