Where to Find and Recruit Wyll

You will almost always encounter Wyll if you're progressing the story through the most basic path, which is heading towards the Emerald Grove. Once there, after finishing the battle with the goblins at the front, you can find Wyll inside the Hollow, helping some of the Tiefling children how to defend themselves.

If Wyll dies during this encounter, you can actually revivify him and he'll be able to proceed to his normal recruitment area with no issues.

After you talk to Wyll, you'll learn he was also on the Nautiloid and, as you peer into his mind, he'll tell you about the demon he's hunting, a one-horned devil named Karlach. Yes, it's the same Karlach but we'll cover that decision later.

At this point, Wyll will ask to join your party, where you can either accept or decline. If you decline, Wyll will stay here until you find him again.

What Happens If You Don't Recruit Wyll Before You Save the Grove?

If you happen to save the grove without recruiting Wyll, he will approach you at the after-party and be open to joining you. If you still decline and the Tieflings leave, Wyll will stay behind, near Kagha, still waiting to be recruited.

Wyll or Karlach: Who Should You Side With?

If you're worried about Wyll departing from your team if you decide to side with Karlach, then worry not. Wyll will eventually see the reason behind your words when you convince him that Karlach is no demon. However, siding with Karlach may carry some other repercussions for Wyll when you next return to camp to rest.

These two characters are intrinsically linked, so any decisions made during this point will also affect recruiting Karlach.

Alternatively, if you decide to kill Karlach, then Wyll will begin to second-guess himself, but you'll lose the opportunity to recruit Karlach and instead, those same repercussions that Wyll would face at camp will become a reward instead. Neither of these choices leads to Wyll leaving your party, but it's worth looking into if you're concerned.

Alternatively, if you skip recruiting Wyll and recruit Karlach first, Wyll will visit you at your camp and try to strike down Karlach, where you can again reason with him. The conversation is the same as above, so you'll be able to get Wyll here as well.

What Happens if You Decide to Raid the Grove?

If you decide to raid the Grove willingly and choose to ultimately side with the Goblins, Wyll will turn on you automatically and you'll be forced to kill him.

What Happens if You Don't Resolve the Dispute in the Grove?

Similar to the situation with raiding the grove, if you decide to abandon the situation altogether, Wyll will disappear after the Tieflings are slaughtered for never making it through the Forest.

Wyll is a powerful companion, and although he's filled with tragedy in his story, his heart is also full of compassion, well, when it doesn't come to goblins of course. He may be one of the easier companions to find initially, but he's also one of the easiest to lose if you're rather careless, so be careful if you want to keep this spellslinging Warlock in your ranks.
